A short and sweet blog for you today, because this research study is A) too good not to
share, and B) brief but to the point.
In 2002, a study was carried out to investigate whether acupuncture increased pregnancy rates in women getting ART (assisted reproductive therapies).
In this study, patients were given acupuncture before and after embryo transfer. They were compared to a control group that didn’t receive acupuncture.
The outcome?
Clinical pregnancies were documented in 34 of 80 patients (42.5%) in the acupuncture group, whereas the pregnancy rate was only 26.3% (21 out of 80 patients) in the control group.
Here’s the study if you’d like to take a look.
And after 20 years of clinical practice, I’m thrilled to say I’ve seen many “acupuncture babies” come into the world, as we like to call them!
It’s always a joy to witness firsthand how acupuncture can help women get pregnant and stay pregnant during IVF.
How many treatments are recommended for fertility acupuncture?
One treatment per week for three months is the standard recommendation to give the body time before trying to get pregnant.
Why three months? Because ovarian follicles typically take three months to mature.
Follicles produce hormones that influence the menstrual cycle and eventually release an egg during ovulation. Acupuncture helps create optimal conditions for follicles to ripen, and the timeframe for this process is about three months.
In addition to acupuncture, we’ll also discuss diet, lifestyle, supplements, and herbal medicine based on your individual needs. Treatment at our office is a holistic look at your overall health in order to optimize fertility.
